Backpacking the old workplace – week 3

  • Post category:Travel Log

This week, I was in Manila.

After a night in Cebu, I flew to Manila to get money from my last job as well as do some final preparations before going abroad. After landing, I would normally be on my phone booking a Grab (Asian Uber). Instead, I decided to take public transport because I’m a backpacker now. Remember?

After a sweaty commute, I arrived at the hostel begging for a shower. It’s easily the shadiest accommodation so far. There was a warning on the door against prostitution and drug use. This place was only a short walk from one of the most expensive places to live in Metro Manila, BGC, where I used to work.

I met some of my friends and old coworkers. I even ran into my old boss. I spent two nights with friends and caught up with what happened in the last two months. I ate at the usual places but also tried the hole in the wall places I wouldn’t have even looked at that were just outside the business district.

This week was uneventful. I was supposed to spend only two days in Manila but complications with getting my money forced me to cancel my Macau trip and cut my Hong Kong trip short. I’m just glad I got that out of the way.

Next week, I’ll be in Thailand!
